 I have seen many Small and Medium enterprises going for very expensive storage boxes as they get fascinated by their skill-full sales persons, Here I want to highlight one of the free storage software which you can compare to your expensive storage boxes and you will be surprised to see that everything what your expensive storage can give even Openfiler offers the same with no cost.You can use openfiler for testing few of your testing and also in POC's,  I am NOT here to market Openfiler but I just want to be a helping hand to few of the SMB's who really need to save some bucks for their growth and needs some really high-end features.

Openfiler includes support for volume-based partitioning, iSCSI (target and initiator), scheduled snapshots, resource quota, and a single unified interface for share management which makes allocating shares for various network file-system protocols a breeze.

System Requirements 

Openfiler is compatible with 32-bit and 64-bit industry standard server hardware. It can also be installed in a virtual machine environment as a guest OS in Xen, Virtual Iron and VMware.For production deployment in either virtualized or bare-metal configuration, its recommend 64-bit Intel Xeon or AMD Opteron architecture processors for best performance. Future releases of Openfiler may only support 64-bit processors therefore they are highly recommended for new Openfiler installations.
